Open World Events Are Back In Dying Light 2

In its most recent AMA on Dying Light 2, Techland confirmed that a big feature from the original game is returning, open-world events. These events aren’t exclusive to the DyingLight series, but they do have a unique impact on the world that’s very much a Dying Light specific mechanic. Events like these include air drops, with vaccines falling from the sky to a location somewhere in the world. It’s always in your interest to pick this stuff up, so you’re encouraged to get out there and grab it. you’re not the only one doing so though. The game’s other humans and even the infected head to the same spot, making for some very tricky gameplay.

Dying Light 2 is going to have even more events like this though, not just air drops, if those are even still a thing. There will be GRE facilities that need to be explored. I think that this will be prompted by a radio signal coming from a facility, drawing players in and giving them an excuse to go inside and see what’s happening. These areas are filled with loot and lore, so it’ll be nice to have an excuse to go into them that’s created by the game, instead of forcing players to explore everywhere at their own will and pace.

The other type of event is simply referred to as Dark Places. I think this is probably a literal name, with these locations being dark and therefore full of infected. They’ll be dangerous gauntlets to get through the infected, claim the loot, and escape before being killed. These events will probably be a lot more frantic and mix up the gameplay so much that players will long for the quiet exploration found in a GRE facility. That’s my hope for them at least.

It’s nice to see Techland mixing up these events. When they’re all the same for too long, the game becomes a bit stale. Only fans who are dedicated to the game will stick around and still enjoy them. With new variations on the open world event formula, Dying Light 2 will be a much more interesting game to play, and hopefully, keep players engaged for much longer as they complete all the side content in between main missions.
